RS PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE RSXpress Mobile Machine Inspection Tool

Using your machine list and electrical schematics and our proprietary RSXpress™ mobile machine guarding assessment tool, Rockford Systems will perform a comprehensive machine safety risk audit fully conforming to OSHA regulations, ANSI B11 machine safeguarding standards, and NFPA 79 or 70E to identify risks and analyze tasks. Our machine guarding risk assessment process functions as both an OSHA machine guarding checklist and a detailed machinery risk assessment. If your company has additional specific safeguarding requirements above and beyond OSHA regulations, ANSI B11 series standards, and NFPA 79 or 70E, they should be provided before the site visit and will be incorporated into the assessment.

We provide a comprehensive report that provides a path to reduce risk and improve safety.

Machine Safeguarding Assessment FAQs

A Machine Safeguarding Assessment is the starting point for any compliant, effective safeguarding program — but it raises questions of its own. Below are answers to what manufacturers most often ask before scheduling theirs. Ready to move forward? Contact Rockford Systems and we’ll walk you through the process.

What is the first step in determining what safeguarding method to choose?

Always start with a formal risk evaluation of tasks, tooling, and usage context. A Machine Safeguarding Assessment documents hazards, defines necessary performance levels, and maps OSHA/ANSI requirements to practical guard and device selections and inspection schedules.

What are the most common machine guarding violations and how can I avoid them?

Frequent citations include missing or misadjusted guards, bypassed interlocks, inadequate training, and insufficient safety distance. An assessment identifies these gaps before they become citations or incidents.

What steps should I take to retrofit aging machinery for modern safeguarding?

Start with a Remote Safeguarding Assessment to establish baseline risk, then implement engineered guards, devices, interlocks, and presence-sensing — with project delivery coordinated through our services.

When is a machine guard exemption allowed and what criteria apply?

Exemptions are rare and must be supported by a documented risk assessment demonstrating no employee exposure during operation. When guarding is impractical, engineered alternatives and validated safety functions are required.

How do I calculate the required safety distance for a robot cell or press?

Apply ANSI B11.19’s D = K × T + C formula. Stop time (T) must be measured with a Stop-Time Measurement service, then devices are implemented and calculations documented.
