Machine Safeguarding Assessment FAQs
A Machine Safeguarding Assessment is the starting point for any compliant, effective safeguarding program — but it raises questions of its own. Below are answers to what manufacturers most often ask before scheduling theirs. Ready to move forward? Contact Rockford Systems and we’ll walk you through the process.
Always start with a formal risk evaluation of tasks, tooling, and usage context. A Machine Safeguarding Assessment documents hazards, defines necessary performance levels, and maps OSHA/ANSI requirements to practical guard and device selections and inspection schedules.

Frequent citations include missing or misadjusted guards, bypassed interlocks, inadequate training, and insufficient safety distance. An assessment identifies these gaps before they become citations or incidents.
→ Talk to An OSHA Compliance Expert
Start with a Remote Safeguarding Assessment to establish baseline risk, then implement engineered guards, devices, interlocks, and presence-sensing — with project delivery coordinated through our services.
→ Start With a Remote Safeguarding Assessment
Exemptions are rare and must be supported by a documented risk assessment demonstrating no employee exposure during operation. When guarding is impractical, engineered alternatives and validated safety functions are required.
→ Talk To an Expert at Rockford Systems
Apply ANSI B11.19’s D = K × T + C formula. Stop time (T) must be measured with a Stop-Time Measurement service, then devices are implemented and calculations documented.
